Out of the Closet has always been more than a thrift store. It’s a community. For over three decades, we’ve offered free HIV testing from trained clinicians in a casual, stigma-free environment, because supporting our community means caring for each other’s health.
Through it all, we’ve stayed rooted in service and committed to creating a space where everyone feels safe, seen, and supported. No matter what comes our way, you’ll always have a place here.

We’ve had many locations over the years, but our East LA store was easily the most art deco. The former Whittier Blvd location once housed the Alameda Theater, a historic landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Although it closed in 1999 after just four years, it remains one of our most memorable stores.
